York Golf Club has a long-established reputation as one of the leading golf clubs in Yorkshire. The member-owned club was founded in 1890, with a course laid out by members on the Knavesmire – which today is York’s famous race course, referred to as “the Ascot of the North”.
In 1906 the club was relocated to its present site in the village of Strensall, occupying land rented from the Ministry of Defence. In 1997 the land was bought from the MOD, securing York Golf Club’s long-term future.
Today the club has a thriving membership, with a full Men’s section, a rapidly growing Ladies’ section and a vibrant and successful Juniors’ section.
The club has established itself as one of the best places to play golf in Yorkshire and is undergoing a course development plan to improve and update every hole on the course, refining both the look and feel of the course while creating a challenging modern course.
York Golf Club’s resident Head Professional, Mark Rogers, has been with the club for over 10 years and was Foremost Golf’s Professional of the Year in 2015. With a modern approach to coaching, fitting and equipment sales and an incredibly well-stocked Pro-Shop, Mark and his team are a true asset to the club, offering a first-class service to all members and visitors.
Most recently, the club has invested in a substantial renovation and refurbishment of the clubhouse facilities, with major work being carried out in the bar, lounge and dining room.
The Members, Committee and Staff at York Golf Club extend a warm welcome to all golfers and visitors to our treasured golf club in Yorkshire.
