History

.

Heritage1

.

The club’s intriguing history is displayed in the JH Taylor Room and gives a fascinating pictorial record from the early days when the club was first established on the York Knavesmire  (the racecourse) some 8 miles away.

.

A display of the founding members’ portraits together with some of the hickory-shafted clubs used at that time for play on the Knavesmire adorns the walls.

.

The Club’s move to our current grounds at Lords Moor Lane, Strensall in 1904 is depicted by portraits of the designer, JH Taylor, his course design and his clubs.

.

Heritage2

.

Golf clubs used by E Cheal and J White are displayed together with brief histories of these founder professional players when playing at Lords Moor Lane, Strensall.

.

Our strong link to the PGA and its heritage through our early professional staff – the PGA founding members - is summarised in the displays.

.

It is a compelling read for the discerning golfer.
