We have been welcoming lady golfers for over 100 years
Throughout the history of York Golf Club, ladies have been welcome to play at York - our first Lady Captain was appointed in 1906 just
after we moved from the Knavesmire to Strensall - and LadyCaptains have been in place every year since other than during the
two World Wars. Full equality for Ladies was a key factor in the success of our ladies section and this was formalised in 2000 well
before many other clubs even considered being so progressive.
We are proud that our ladies section is one of the most succesful in the region. Latest figures show 107 playing ladies and 125 social members, all of whom have access to and can enjoy a wide range of golfing and/or social events.
Our ladies play most of their competitions on a Tuesday, but there are also numerous opportunities to play ladies and mixed golf in the week and at the weekends too.
Ladies have the opportunity to represent the Club in inter-club matches which range from competitive to more social and friendly fixtures. We also offer the chance to play in events staged by England Golf; Yorkshire Ladies County Golf Association (YLCGA); York & District Ladies Winter Golf Alliance (Y&DLWGA); East Yorkshire Ladies Winter Golf Association (EYLWGA); Yorkshire Veteran Ladies Golf Alliance (YVLGA) . These are all great ways to make new friends and get the chance to experience playing other golf courses.
During the year we also hold fun competitions, away days, invitation days, open competitions and social/charity events.
The Club has recently become a signatory of the R&A Women in Golf Charter embracing the clubs determination to ensure that golf is inclusive for all and will continue to encourage women and girls to join and thrive here at York.
All in all, we believe York Golf Club offers ladies the best opportunity to play golf - whether as a Junior - an adult starting to play for the first time - or an "old hand" looking for either a new challenge or a more vibrant ladies section - so please get in touch as we would love to welcome you here.
