Juniors

York Golf Club’s Junior Mission Statement Is Simple:

We aim to promote the game of golf in a safe, fun and friendly environment to enable every Junior to learn to enjoy the game and reach their full potential.

Proudly nurturing the next generation of golfers

We cater for all levels of Juniors and offer opportunities for improvement and enjoyment.

Whether you are a complete beginner or an accomplished golfer with a handicap, you’ll experience a supportive environment to help you grow as a golfer.

Jack Smith, from our PGA Pro Team, runs our junior coaching sessions, which are usually held on Sunday mornings. Through consultation with our coaching team, we will help you find the Juniors category that’s best suited to your skills and experience.

Our Junior Player Pathways

Pre-Blues

For juniors who are new to golf, we offer group coaching sessions with our PGA Pro Team to learn the basics and have fun. The junior committee run on-course games on a 5-hole course (50–150 yards) to allow skills to be developed and practiced in a relaxed, pressure-free environment while enjoying the game.

Blues

For juniors improving their game but who do not yet hold a WHS handicap, our Blues juniors can attend group coaching with our PGA Pro Team and take part in 11 x 9-hole Stableford competitions on a reduced course. Playing from the Blue Tees, these sessions provide a place to practice skills and gain experience on the course while working towards a full WHS handicap.

WHS

Juniors with an official World Handicap System (WHS) handicap can be part of a competitive squad with PGA-led coaching to refine their skills for competitions and team events. Throughout the year, they have a full fixture list of competitions in various formats, giving them a complete golfing experience.

Improve and compete in our Junior Team of golfers

If you want to enjoy a competitive but super friendly game of golf, our Junior Team takes part in lots of fun competitions.

Led by Junior Team Organiser Mark Schofield, we compete in the National Brentwood Catholic Children’s Society event and the York Union Junior League, matches are followed by a meal.

Talented players can even progress to the York Union Junior Team and compete in the Yorkshire Inter-District Junior League.
